Terms of Service — Retro Genie

Welcome to Retro Genie. These Terms of Service explain the conditions that apply when browsing our website or purchasing products from us.

By placing an order, you agree to these terms. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory consumer rights.

1. About Retro Genie

Retro Genie is an independent UK business specialising in vintage, retro and second-hand goods, including hi-fi equipment, electronics, sewing machines, furniture, collectables and home accessories.

Established in 2012, we carefully source and sell items with character, history and individuality.

Retro Genie operates as a sole trader business based in Southampton, Hampshire, United Kingdom.

2. Products and Descriptions

Many of our products are vintage, pre-owned or one-off items.

We aim to provide accurate descriptions, photographs and condition information for every product.

Due to their age and previous use, vintage and second-hand goods may display signs of wear, including scratches, marks, discolouration and other cosmetic imperfections.

We endeavour to identify significant damage, missing accessories, operational faults and other relevant issues.

Customers should read product descriptions and examine photographs carefully before purchasing.

Any known faults or limitations will be disclosed where reasonably possible.

Product colours may appear slightly different depending on screen settings and lighting.

3. Product Availability

Most items sold by Retro Genie are individual, one-off products.

All orders are subject to availability.

As we also sell through other marketplaces, an item may occasionally sell elsewhere before our website inventory is updated.

If an item becomes unavailable after an order has been placed, we will contact you promptly and provide a full refund if we cannot fulfil the order.

4. Prices and Payments

All prices are displayed in British Pounds Sterling (GBP).

The total amount payable will be shown before you confirm your order.

Retro Genie currently offers free standard UK delivery.

Payments are processed securely through the payment providers available at checkout, which may include Shopify Payments and PayPal.

We do not directly store customers' full payment card details.

We reserve the right to correct genuine pricing or listing errors. If an error affects an order, we will contact you and explain the available options before proceeding.

5. Orders and Acceptance

After placing an order, you will normally receive an automated order confirmation email.

This confirms that we have received your order but does not necessarily mean that it has been accepted.

A contract of sale is formed when we confirm acceptance of your order, normally through a dispatch confirmation.

We may be unable to accept an order because of stock availability, payment issues, an obvious pricing error or another legitimate reason.

Where payment has already been taken and we cannot fulfil an order, we will issue a refund.

6. Shipping and Delivery

We offer free standard delivery within the United Kingdom.

We aim to dispatch orders within 2 working days of receiving payment.

Most items are estimated to arrive within 3–5 working days after dispatch.

Large furniture, heavy equipment and fragile vintage items may require specialist delivery and additional time.

Our delivery obligations remain subject to applicable UK consumer law.

7. Returns, Cancellations and Refunds

Customers purchasing online normally have the right to cancel eligible orders within 14 calendar days of receiving their goods.

Customers who exercise this right generally have a further 14 calendar days to return the items.

For change-of-mind returns, customers are responsible for return postage costs where these have been properly disclosed before purchase.

If an item is faulty, damaged or not as described, we will provide an appropriate remedy in accordance with UK consumer law.

8. Vintage, Untested and Spares-or-Repair Goods

Some products may be described as vintage, untested, faulty or suitable for spares or repair.

Such descriptions indicate the item's known condition or limitations.

Customers should not assume that an item described as faulty or untested is fully operational.

However, clearly disclosed faults do not remove statutory rights relating to other defects, misdescription or applicable cancellation rights.

Nothing in these terms excludes or restricts rights provided by the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

9. Use of Our Website

You agree not to misuse our website or engage in fraudulent or unlawful activity.

You must not attempt to interfere with the website's security, functionality or payment systems.

We reserve the right to take reasonable action to protect our business and customers against misuse.

10. Website Content

Product descriptions, original photographs, branding and other content created by Retro Genie remain our intellectual property unless otherwise stated.

You may not reproduce or commercially reuse our original content without permission, except where permitted by law.

11. Liability

We are responsible for losses and damage caused by our breach of contract or failure to use reasonable care and skill where required by law.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

12. Privacy and Personal Information

We handle customer information in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable data protection legislation.

Personal information is used for purposes including processing orders, arranging delivery, providing customer support and fulfilling legal obligations.
